Irv Gotti Says Drake is a Genius, Calls Him the 'Eminem of Today'
Irv Gotti apparently has an extremely high opinion of Drake, as he expressed in a trailer for an upcoming episode of the Drink Champs podcast.
While talking about the Toronto rapper’s success, Irv implied that Drake would be selling way more than he is now, if he was coming up in the late 90’s and early 2000’s when Murder Inc. was flourishing. He also calls the rapper a “genius” before claiming he’s an Eminem in today’s era.
“If Drake was in my era, Drake would be selling 15 million, 20 million a clip,” he says. “Do you realize this? So right now, he sells three, four. If he was in my era, he’d be selling 15, 20. I know this, so I’m like, once he does something outside the music genre, he’s gonna see how colossal he is. That n*gga’s colossal. He’s a genius. That motherf***er’s a genius, okay? Drizzy for sure is a genius, yo. He’s, dare I say, our Eminem of today… he’s f*cking Eminem.”
Eminem was vocal about his appreciation for Drake and other new rappers in an interview with the New York Times in 2015, “I love [Lil] Wayne, Drake, Big Sean, Schoolboy Q. I love Kendrick [Lamar]."
"I just try to pay attention to what’s out. Wayne puts out a new song, and my ears perk up. There are certain artists that make me do that just because of the caliber that they rhyme at — it’s like candy to me. Kendrick, the way he puts albums together — front to back, they’re like pieces of art. But hip-hop needs Drake, too. Hip-hop needs Big Sean. I feel like hip-hop is in a good place right now. There’s this balance of things going on, and it feels like some of the best rappers are the most successful. Sometimes that’s not the case."
